The smaller 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower splits the difference, coming in at 6.1 seconds. It might seem surprising to talk about fuel efficiency in a half-ton pickup but the diesel engine does surprisingly well with up to 33 MPG on Fremont and Huron highways.

Towing and hauling capability

The latest edition of the Chevy Silverado 1500 has a maximum towing capability of 13,300 pounds which beats the Ram 1500 by 550 pounds. You can reach the Silverado 1500's highest tow rating with the 6.2-liter V8 while the 5.3-liter shows its strength with 11,500 pounds of towing. Payload capacity for Vermillion and Norwalk buyers ranges up to 2260 pounds.
